VH1 isn't really a music channel anymore, at least not the way it was in the '90s. These days, programming leans heavily into reality: Love & Hip Hop, Black Ink Crew, and the occasional docu-series about pop icons. The music video blocks are mostly confined to early morning slots or themed weekends, and even those feel like a throwback rather than a mission statement. What VH1 does well is nostalgia. The I Love the… series reruns still pop up, and the occasional Madonna or Prince special reminds you this channel once mattered in music journalism. Production values are surprisingly polished for basic cable, and the channel's tone skews older than MTV, less teen drama, more adult-oriented gossip. If you're looking for current music videos, you'll be disappointed.
