RTÉ2 is Ireland's second channel, and it acts like it. It's the younger sibling, the one with the messy room and the better playlist. The schedule mixes homegrown comedy, live GAA and rugby, entertainment imports, and the odd cult series that never made it onto RTÉ One. Mid-afternoon can feel like a teenager's streaming queue, but prime time often delivers the most genuinely Irish TV on the air. There's a scrappier energy here, less polish, more willingness to take a punt on a weird format. Some of it fails, sure, but you don't get shows like that elsewhere on Irish telly. RTÉ2 live is also where you'll catch live sport when the big events roll around, with commentary that doesn't over-explain the basics. If you're stuck abroad and want to watch RTÉ2 online, this is the way to keep up with the country's loudest, least formal channel. It's not perfect. The repeat ratio gets heavy during the day, and some imports feel like filler. Still, for General tv Ireland, it's essential viewing.
