Private Eyes

Private Eyes is a Canadian detective series, and it wears that label without apology. The premise is simple: a former pro hockey player turned private investigator teams up with a sharp, sceptical fellow investigator, and the two solve cases around Toronto. If that sounds like comfort TV, that's because it is. The show isn't chasing the grim, prestige-drama tone of modern crime television. It's lighter, funnier, and more interested in the chemistry between its leads than in shocking you with a twist in the final act. For viewers who miss the case-of-the-week format that network TV used to run on autopilot, this scratches an itch that streaming originals often ignore. Episodes move fast, the Toronto locations give it a distinct look, and the dialogue stays snappy. It's not trying to be The Wire, and that's the point. As part of the Movies tv Canada landscape, it sits comfortably alongside the country's long tradition of accessible genre television.
