80s Rewind

80s Rewind is Pluto TV's love letter to the decade of big hair and bigger explosions, but it's not the deep cut channel you'd find on Criterion. The programming skews heavily toward the mainstream: think Die Hard, Ghostbusters, and The Breakfast Club on rotation, not obscure indie gems. That's fine if you want comfort viewing. The ad breaks are frequent but short, a Pluto trademark that keeps the momentum from dying. What's missing is any genre diversity, horror and sci-fi get short shrift, and the adult dramas of the era (Ordinary People, anyone?) are absent. It's basically the equivalent of a Blockbuster shelf labeled "Popular in the 80s." For nostalgia without a subscription fee, it works. Just don't expect your VHS collection's weirdest finds to pop up. Streaming online via Tvivu, it's a solid background channel for a themed party or a lazy Sunday. The Movies tv United States offerings rarely get more aggressively 80s than this.
