IRIB 1's evening lineup leans heavily on domestically produced serials, family sagas and historical epics that command massive ratings in Iranian households. The 9pm news bulletin, however, feels more like a government briefing than journalism: official statements, subdued anchors, and zero unexpected questions. That's not the channel's strength. What works? The variety in daytime programming. Cooking shows, talk formats, and religious content during Muharram fill gaps between dramas. Production values are decent for state TV, clean graphics, competent directing, but the censorship is constant. Women's hair covered, no music deemed Western, no criticism of the regime. Still, if you want to understand what millions of Iranians watch daily, IRIB 1 is the closest you'll get. General tv Iran doesn't get more mainstream. To watch IRIB 1 online, Tvivu offers a consistent stream, though expect occasional buffering during peak hours. The channel is essential for context on Iranian culture and politics, even if you'll need a strong tolerance for propaganda. For IRIB 1 live, tune into the 8pm drama slot, that's when the channel shows its true colors.
