The 'General' category is television's default setting, the broad, all-purpose programming that built the medium. These channels don't specialize; they cycle through sitcoms, dramas, reality shows, talk shows, movies, and news, offering a little bit of everything. Think of the big U.S. broadcasters like ABC, NBC, and CBS, which started as radio networks and grew into the backbone of American living rooms. In Europe, equivalents like Italy's Rai 1, Spain's La 1, and France's TF1 do the same, mixing national news with imported series and local game shows. The Dominican Republic's Color Visión and Telecentro give a Caribbean flavor to the mix. What makes a general channel good isn't originality; it's curation. The best ones know when to schedule a beloved rerun against a live sports event on another channel, or when to premiere a new talk show during prime time. Live, they become appointment viewing, think New Year's Eve broadcasts, national award shows, or breaking political interviews. The format is old, but the instinct is timeless: turn on, tune in, and find something familiar. On Tvivu, you can flip through 4,686 of these channels from every corner of the world, each one a window into what a country considers mainstream entertainment.
